PeopleSoft nVision Unauthenticated Takeover Vulnerability
Severe, but no confirmed exploitation yet. Schedule remediation in your next patch cycle and apply mitigations if you're exposed.
An unauthenticated attacker, remotely over the network, if a user is tricked into opening a malicious file or link, can fully compromise the system — steal data, tamper with it and take it offline.
Vulnerability in the PeopleSoft Enterprise PeopleTools product of Oracle PeopleSoft (component: nVision). Supported versions that are affected are 8.61-8.63. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise PeopleSoft Enterprise PeopleTools. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in takeover of PeopleSoft Enterprise PeopleTools. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 8.8 (Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).
Inferred from the weakness type (CWE) and how the flaw is reached — the techniques an attacker would chain to exploit this. Real-world corroboration appears here as threat intel is folded in.
Generated by Wavense from the CVE record — an immediate mitigation and the permanent fix.
Implement strict network segmentation to limit direct HTTP access to PeopleSoft Enterprise PeopleTools from untrusted networks. Configure Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) to monitor and block suspicious requests targeting the nVision component. Enhance logging and monitoring for unusual activity originating from the PeopleSoft application layer, focusing on admin console access or configuration changes.
Apply the vendor-provided security patches immediately for Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise PeopleTools. Ensure all affected instances running versions 8.61, 8.62, and 8.63 are updated to a patched release. Regularly consult Oracle's official security advisories for specific patch numbers and comprehensive upgrade instructions to permanently address this critical vulnerability.
An unauthenticated attacker can fully compromise PeopleSoft Enterprise PeopleTools via HTTP with some user interaction. This allows complete takeover, leading to severe impacts on confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical business data and operations. Unauthorized access could result in data theft, modification of financial records, or disruption of essential HR and finance services.

In order to decrypt SM2 encrypted data an application is expected to call the API function EVP_PKEY_decrypt(). Typically an application will call this function twice. The first time, on entry, the "out" parameter can be NULL and, on exit, the "outlen" parameter is populated with the buffer size required to hold the decrypted plaintext. The application can then allocate a sufficiently sized buffer and call EVP_PKEY_decrypt() again, but this time passing a non-NULL value for the "out" parameter. A bug in the implementation of the SM2 decryption code means that the calculation of the buffer size required to hold the plaintext returned by the first call to EVP_PKEY_decrypt() can be smaller than the actual size required by the second call. This can lead to a buffer overflow when EVP_PKEY_decrypt() is called by the application a second time with a buffer that is too small. A malicious attacker who is able present SM2 content for decryption to an application could cause attacker chosen data to overflow the buffer by up to a maximum of 62 bytes altering the contents of other data held after the buffer, possibly changing application behaviour or causing the application to crash. The location of the buffer is application dependent but is typically heap allocated. Fixed in OpenSSL 1.1.1l (Affected 1.1.1-1.1.1k).

There's a flaw in libxml2 in versions before 2.9.11. An attacker who is able to submit a crafted file to be processed by an application linked with libxml2 could trigger a use-after-free. The greatest impact from this flaw is to confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
An integer overflow flaw which could lead to an out of bounds write was discovered in libssh2 before 1.8.1 in the way SSH_MSG_CHANNEL_REQUEST packets with an exit signal are parsed. A remote attacker who compromises a SSH server may be able to execute code on the client system when a user connects to the server.
