What's the risk?

An unauthenticated attacker, remotely over the network, if a user is tricked into opening a malicious file or link, can fully compromise the system — steal data, tamper with it and take it offline.

Incorrect alias information in IonMonkey JIT compiler for setting array elements could lead to a type confusion. We are aware of targeted attacks in the wild abusing this flaw. This vulnerability affects Firefox ESR < 68.4.1, Thunderbird < 68.4.1, and Firefox < 72.0.1.

    What to do

Generated by Wavense from the CVE record — an immediate mitigation and the permanent fix.

    1. !

      Mitigate now

Temporarily restrict browsing to trusted websites and consider using an alternative, updated browser for sensitive tasks until patches are applied. Implement strong network segmentation and ensure robust endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions are actively monitoring for suspicious browser process behavior. Users should operate with the principle of least privilege to limit potential damage from successful exploitation.

    2. ✓

      Permanent fix

The permanent solution is to immediately update affected Mozilla products to the patched versions. Upgrade Firefox to 72.0.1, Firefox ESR to 68.4.1, and Thunderbird to 68.4.1 or later. These updates contain fixes for the incorrect alias information that leads to the type confusion vulnerability.

    Business impact

An attacker can exploit this type confusion flaw in the IonMonkey JIT compiler to achieve arbitrary code execution. This allows them to run malicious code on the victim's system, potentially leading to full system compromise, data theft, and loss of confidentiality and integrity for the affected user. The awareness of targeted attacks in the wild underscores its severe potential for real-world exploitation.

An issue was discovered in SaltStack Salt before 2019.2.4 and 3000 before 3000.2. The salt-master process ClearFuncs class does not properly validate method calls. This allows a remote user to access some methods without authentication. These methods can be used to retrieve user tokens from the salt master and/or run arbitrary commands on salt minions.

smtp_mailaddr in smtp_session.c in OpenSMTPD 6.6, as used in OpenBSD 6.6 and other products, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands as root via a crafted SMTP session, as demonstrated by shell metacharacters in a MAIL FROM field. This affects the "uncommented" default configuration. The issue exists because of an incorrect return value upon failure of input validation.
